FAQ: Retouching

A sleeve that's too long, a size that needs adjusting, a hem that needs fixing: instead of sending your garment back, have it altered. We partner with Les Raccommodeurs, who connect you with a local artisan, and we cover the cost of alterations up to €18.

How It Works

1. Submit your request on the Les Raccommodeurs portal, along with your order number.
2. You’ll be connected with a local tailor, or you can use your own seamstress if you prefer.
3. Once the alteration is complete, upload a photo of the altered garment and the invoice to your account. We’ll reimburse you after verification.

The Questions We're Asked Most Often

How much will it cost me?

Free up to €18: that’s the amount we’ll cover for an item from the current collection. For amounts over that, you’ll be responsible for the difference. For an item from a previous collection, we’ll give you a €18 credit toward your next order.

I prefer my own seamstress. Is that possible?

Yes. You can have the alterations done by the tailor of your choice. The only requirement is that you first submit your request through the portal, then upload the photo and the invoice there.

Do I need to go through the portal even if the edit has already been made?

Yes, always. The portal is what opens your case and initiates the reimbursement. An email with an invoice attached cannot be processed.

I sent my photos and my invoice, and I haven't heard back.

There are almost always two reasons. Either one of the two required documents is missing—very often the invoice, even though the photos were received—and both are required. Or your claim is currently being reviewed, a step that precedes the refund. If there has been no update after two weeks, please email us at contact@barje-paris.fr with your order number.

The portal won't accept my order number.

Make sure you're using the four-digit number listed in your confirmation email and the email address used to place the order—this is often where the problem lies, especially if the order was placed from a different address. If the issue persists, please contact us: we'll locate your number and unblock your request.

I had two items altered. Only one was refunded.

Each item requires its own request, with its own photo and invoice. If one invoice covers two items, please specify this and attach a photo of each one.

How long does it take?

The turnaround time depends on the craftsman for the repair itself. As for reimbursement, please allow time for verification after you submit your supporting documents. If you have an important date—a wedding, a move—let us know: we’ll do our best.

My piece has a flaw—it's not a matter of size.

First, email us at contact@barje-paris.fr with photos and your order number. A seam that has come undone or a loose thread is covered by the warranty, not by our alterations service: we’ll review the situation with you and let you know what to do.

Can I still return an item that I had altered?

No. A modified item cannot be returned. That is why we ask that you decide first: if the fit is completely wrong, return it; if it just needs a slight adjustment, have it altered.

I'm missing a button.

Write to us: We have replacement buttons for most of our items and will send them to you. The buttons can then be sewn on by our alterations department.

Why It Matters to Us

A refurbished part lasts, on average, 70% longer and produces 30% less CO₂ than a part that’s sent away, comes back, and then sits unused somewhere. It also provides work for French artisans right in your neighborhood.

LIMITED EDITIONS
It allow us to offer you collector's items that are unique because they are produced in very limited series, while at the same time eliminating waste and avoiding unsaleables #theplanetisthankingyou.

UPCYCLING

This word, which we don't know how to pronounce but read everywhere, actually means something very simple: we use deadstock fabrics, which have already been produced but never used, to make the majority of our pieces.

So there's no need to produce new ones #theplanetsaysthanks!

At Barje, we buy fabrics from luxury houses, which allow to combine quality materials with eco-responsibility.

So you can wear your beautiful pieces made from deadstock fabrics :) it's so Barje!

MULTI-WEAR

Our pieces can be worn as sets or mismatched for an infinite range of possibilities!

Take a look at the photos in our eshop and you'll understand everything.

Designed to be worn with heels or sneakers, you'll never be disappointed.

KNOW-HOW AND SUSTAINABILITY

Two obsessions at Barje: craftsmanship and sustainability. All our models are produced in France or Europe in small workshops chosen for their expertise, working conditions and, of course, transparency (an essential criteria for us).

We've built up a real relationship of trust with them from the beginning. In short, we know everything about them and they know everything about us.
